Quick action to stop LNG

Rep. Riley's bill would make it harder for companies to destory forests with pipelines like these.

Just got word that an LNG protection bill has made its way to committee in the Oregon Legislature. There's a brief description of the bill below, and the complete text is here. The long and short: this legislation would ensure all potential LNG projects face the scrutiny they deserve and don't leave Oregonians footing the bill for the environmental damage that could come.

"Rep. Chuck Riley has just introduced House Bill 3616, the Domestic Resource Protection Act.  This bill would require that, before Oregon grants any water permits to an LNG terminal or pipeline, the Dept. of State Lands will need to determine that there is a significant need for the gas, that the need cannot be filled from domestic supplies, that it would not cost more than domestic gas, and that the terminal would not interfere with the state's efforts to address climate change.  The bill would also require the applicant to pay all costs of the state's review of the project.

"As of this morning, the House Speaker Dave Hunt referred Rep. Riley’s Domestic Resource Protection Act (HB 3616) to the House Committee on Sustainability and Economic Development, Chaired by Rep. Tobias Read.

"Here is a contact list for your reference.  Please email and call these members and voice your support for Rep. Riley’s bill.  We need this bill to protect our state’s rivers, streams, and wetlands, as well as the valuable farm and timber lands that are in jeopardy to private companies’ condemnation."
