Since she joined the Oregon Wild team in Fall 2011, Development Assistant Marielle Cowdin has been jazzed to contribute to the behind-the-scenes work involved with protecting Oregon’s wild places and wildlife. She’s excited to be an administrative support to the development team as well as to the organization’s members, donors, and advocates, and she has made it her personal mission to explore all the beautiful places Oregon has to offer.
Before moving to the Northwest, Marielle worked to protect the wilderness of the Northeast as the Membership Assistant for the Appalachian Mountain Club. She also spent the past year working and traveling around Australia through Willing Workers On Organic Farms (WWOOF), experiencing first-hand how to live sustainably. Her time in Australia sparked a passion for permaculture, which she now studies and practices.
Marielle is all about recognizing and respecting our interdependence on the Earth as a living system. Just as our lungs or heart could not exist without our bodies, we could not exist without our environment, which is why she is works hard to protect and care for our natural world.
Outside of work she loves to have adventures in the great outdoors. In addition to hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, x-country skiing, horseback riding, biking, and playing Frisbee, her more inert life activities include darkroom photography, brewing craft beer, drinking craft beer, baking, learning how to play the fiddle, and watching Green Bay Packers games.
