Suggestions for a Basic First Aid Kit
A list of items to have along on hikes and other outdoor trips in case of an emergency.
The following list is only a suggestion for items you should
consider packing in your first aid kit. In addition to basic first aid
equipment, it is a good idea to take a basic first aid class. The American Red Cross offers excellent classes in
your community.
- Personal medications
- Roll bandages
- Adhesive tape
- Sterile gauze pads
- Sterile compresses
- Triangular bandages
- Misc. band aids/bandages
- Cortaid (or similar hydrocortisone 1% ointment); chafing, rash, bites, & stings
- Neosporin (or similar antibiotic cream)
- Hydrogen peroxide (or similar disinfectant)
- Aspirin/Ibuprofen/Tylenol
- Ace bandages
- Cotton swabs
- Tweezers
- Pocket knife
- Safety pins
- Bee sting kit
- Tissues
- Insect repellant
- Sunscreen
- Notepad/pen
- Moleskin (or other blister protection)
- Waterproof bag or large zip lock (to store it all in)
