THIS EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO SUNDAY. Oregon Wild members, join naturalist Wendell Wood for a day-long workshop on mushroom and native plant identification at Larch Mountain, a beautiful area proposed for Wilderness protection.
Sun., October 21: Larch Mt. Mushroom and Plant ID Workshop
Lewis and Clark Mount Hood Wilderness proposal
This is a Members-only hike. Not a member? Click here to join!
(Moderate, 3 miles, 200’ elevation gain and 450’ elevation loss)
Visit the old-growth forest groves on Larch Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge as you learn to identify the area's plentiful plants and mushrooms. Larch Mountain’s crater and the adjacent Multnomah Basin (above Multnomah Falls) contain the largest, oldest and most accessible groves of ancient western hemlock and Douglas fir anywhere in the Columbia River Gorge. Big old western red cedars also line much of Multnomah Creek and occasional moss and vine maple covered basalt outcrops add to the area’s diversity. Plant list provided. Please note that mushrooms will not be gathered on this outing.
How to RSVP:
Since the date of this hike has been moved to Sunday, we expect a few openings. Please contact the hike leader directly at 707-218-8355 to RSVP. Be sure to include your name and phone number.
