Come help shape the future of Mount Hood and National Forests around the country!
NFMA...it's a funny acronym with implications that are anything but.
The
National Forest Management Act (NFMA) is the overarching document that
guides all management decisions for 155 National Forests across the
country - including Mt. Hood, Willamette, Deschutes, and others in
Oregon.
In what is likely to be one of the most significant
legacies of the Obama administration, these planning rules are being
overhauled. Previous efforts by other administrations have been
directed at undermining the rules that were last updated in 1982.
The
new Rules are a step in the wrong direction and make what were once
mandatory protections for fish, wildlife, and clean water optional. You can read our reaction to the new rule here.
The
Forest Service has asked for input from the public. You can bet
commercial and development interests will be there in force. It's
critical that you come too and be a voice for clean water, healthy wildlife, and opportunities for traditional recreation.
Two meetings will take place at the Portland Sheraton Airport Hotel on Friday, March 25th. The first is at 8:30 am and the second will take place at 1:30 pm.
The hotel is located at 8235 Northeast Airport Way
Portland, OR 97220, and accessible by the Max Red Line at the Mt. Hood Avenue stop.
We hope you'll attend the meeting and make your voice heard here.
