Conservation and recreation groups from around the country are joining together in outdoor events aimed at shining a spotlight on the important role of our public lands.

Joining leaders from across the country, Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber issued a proclamation declaring the week of August 20th to August 28th Great Outdoors Week in Oregon. The effort echoes calls on Congress to protect America's National Forests, wilderness, and other public lands. The week features a series of outdoor activities that highlight the importance of public lands in Oregon and across the country to outdoor recreation, clean water, abundant wildlife, and healthy economies.
