Summit Fuji Mountain, on the south end of pristine Waldo Lake via the longer, and more beautiful route that takes in two lovely lakes and stunning high-elevation forest.
Difficulty: Strenuous
Distance: 11 miles
Elevation Gain: 2,200 feet
Leader: Chandra LeGue
Location: Willamette National Forest, near Waldo Lake
On the southern edge of the Waldo Wilderness, Fuji Mountain offers 360 degree views of Waldo Lake and many surrounding peaks in an almost unbroken expanse of wild forest.
To get to the top we’ll climb steeply at times, and pass through gorgeous high elevation forests and by Birthday and Verde Lakes. With luck, we’ll avoid mosquito season and hit prime huckleberry season instead.
This is sure to be a worthwhile challenge for a seasoned or ambitious hiker.
