Explore a section of the famous Pacific Crest Trail as it slips by a 50-foot waterfall and past diverse plant life in the Columbia Gorge.
Level: Moderate
Distance: 5.7 miles
Elevation Gain: 600 feet
Leader: Wendell Wood
Location: Columbia Gorge Wilderness (part of the Lewis and Clark Mount Hood Wilderness Bill)
(Please leave the next day-- Tuesday, May 5--open in case the hike is postponed due to significant rain.)
Join Oregon Wild Naturalist Wendell Wood to tour this diverse Columbia River Gorge scenery with a stop at a less visited 50-foot plunge waterfall as well as other viewpoints over mossy rockslide outcrops of the Columbia River (near the City of Cascade Locks.)
We’ll hike along the famed Pacific Crest Trail along its first few miles in northern Oregon. Along the way, we’ll look for unique flora and learn a thing or two about identifying plant species.
Elevation gain is mostly gradual the first 2.5 miles when coming from the east--and with most of the elevation loss the very last mile, when exiting at the west end. Space is limited to 12 participants.
