Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges Field Trip--weekend of November 2, 3 & 4
Waterfowl
and bird identification will be the emphasis of this trip exclusively for
Oregon Wild members hosted
by Wendell Wood. Come enjoy some of America's most spectacular wildlife areas with guides who know and love them.
Arrive at Oregon Wild’s South-central field station no later than Friday evening, November 2. Early Saturday, November 3 we will carpool an hour south to view waterfowl and other birds along Upper Klamath Lake and then Lower Klamath and other area refuges.
Friday afternoon and Sunday will be potential hiking days at Klamath Marsh NWR, or along the Williamson River, or to try to find the elusive Great Gray Owl at the crack of dawn. Saturday’s bird trip will be mostly driving to a variety of different birding locations. The date selected here is the general peak of the fall bird migration. Likely, early morning temperatures will be below 20 degrees, warming into the mid-50’s during the day.
Limited to 12 participants. Must be an Oregon Wild member to attend. Click here to Join Oregon Wild. To make your reservation and obtain directions contact Wendell Wood at ww@oregonwild.org or call 707-218-8355. Please provide your full name(s), address, and phone number for all participants, and if you are an Oregon Wild member.
What to bring: Lodging will be provided at a rustic cabin. Please come fully self-contained. Bring binoculars, bird book, warm clothes, sleeping bag and pad (limited mattresses available), food (except for Saturday night) hiking shoes, and walkie talkies (if you have them--for better birding communication between cars). Bring a cooler to store food & beverages (in shed off the kitchen) however you probably won’t need any ice in November. The cabin contains full kitchen facilities, 2 restrooms, and we will supply some condiments, plates, pans, cooking oil, etc.
