Climb one of the Cascades’ most accessible mountains on this challenging trek within the Crater Lake Wilderness proposal. This hike kicks off our Roadless Recreation Week!

Difficulty: Strenuous
Distance: 10 miles
Elevation Gain: 3,130 feet
Leader: Chandra LeGue
Location: Umpqua National Forest

Mount Bailey may not be one of the most recognizable peaks in the Cascades, but it looms over popular Diamond Lake and lies in the heart of an expanse of wildlands that stretches from Mt. McLoughlin to Diamond Peak.

The challenging hike to the summit takes in extraordinary views and diverse forests and terrain as the elevation changes. Experienced and fit hikers on this trip will get a chance to experience the proposed Crater Lake Wilderness and learn about the threats to this beautiful Cascade backcountry landscape.

Due to the remote location of this hike, participants may choose to camp out the night before. Though this will not be considered an official Oregon Wild campout, suggested carpooling meet-ups and camping locations will be provided as the hike date nears.

As part of our Roadless Recreation week, you'll get to see first hand the values of roadless areas, the threats they face, and learn about the critical but common sense protections of the Roadless Rule.

Sign up for the hike here.
