Join Oregon Wild naturalist Wendell Wood for a trip to Summer Lake, in Southern Oregon. Canoeing and wildlife watching in a state wildlife refuge, in one of the most stark and beautiful landscapes in Oregon.

Summer Lake Canoe and Birding Trip, September 14, 15, 16, 2007

An outstanding canoeing/ kayaking/ natural history adventure for Oregon Wild Members hosted by Wendell Wood.

Arrive at Oregon Wild’s South-central Oregon Field Station beside the Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge anytime after 2 PM on Friday September 14.

Kayaks on Upper Klamath LakeOn Saturday, Sept. 15 we will leave early for an hour and half drive (with wildlife viewing along the way) for ODFW’s Summer Lake Wildlife Area.  Here we will canoe in the refuge or along a desert canyon on the Anna River.  Then take the auto tour to see more early fall migrant birds on this State wildlife refuge.

On Sunday, Sept. 16 hike 3 miles (downhill with a shuttle) to two little known waterfalls at Crater Lake—or else canoe, kayak or hike closer by along the Williamson River or Wood River wetlands (depending upon group interest).

What to bring: Lodging will be provided at a rustic cabin, or bring a tent if you prefer.  Come fully self-contained with sleeping bags and food.  We will pot luck meals Friday and Saturday evenings.  Indoor dormitory sleeping space, restrooms, and kitchen facilities are provided.  For more privacy, camp immediately outside.  Limited to 12 participants.   Must be an Oregon Wild member to attend.
