The state’s preeminent outdoors author on Wilderness, exploration, and the beauty of Oregon. (Event is free to the public)

Oregon Wild Wednesday comes to Bend!

If you’re a serious hiker in Oregon, you’ve probably heard his name. You may have read one of his novels. His famous hand drawn maps might have guided you back to the trailhead from a distant wilderness vista. His name is William Sullivan, and no man is more synonymous with Oregon hiking trails than the fifth generation Oregonian.

Join Oregon Wild and William Sullivan at McMenamin's Old St. William SullivanFrancis School in Bend for an evening of exploration with the master of Oregon trails. Sullivan will present on his experiences hiking all over Oregon and reveal the recreation secrets in Oregon’s newest Wilderness areas - including those in eastern Oregon.

Sullivan is best known for his 100 Hikes series that details the best hikes in five distinct regions of the state. He has gathered his hiking trail knowledge over a three decade career that included a 1985 trip where Sullivan set out to investigate Oregon’s wilderness on a 1,361-mile solo backpacking trek from the state’s westernmost shore at Cape Blanco to Oregon’s easternmost point in Hells Canyon.

Mount BaileyAlso presenting will be Oregon Wild Wilderness Coordinator Erik Fernandez. Fernandez will give guests an inside look at how the recent Wilderness expansion came to pass and a sneak peak at what’s next for Oregon Wilderness.
