It's mushroom season! Just as the forests start to explode with fungi, learn more about their fascinating world with local ecologist Bruce Newhouse.

Whether you love or hate eating mushrooms, you've got to admit they are fascinating, and often beautiful, things! As the fall rains bring mushrooms popping out of the ground, we invite you to hear from one of Eugene's premiere fungi enthusiasts, Bruce Newhouse, on the fungal world and its treasures.

Have you ever wondered what the largest known living thing in the world is?  Or where the rarest fungi grow, and why?  Or why most of our popular edible mushrooms grow in forests?  Or why there are bubbles in your brew?  Visit the Fungal Kingdom, and learn answers to all these questions.  Come and experience the Fun in Fungi!

ChanterelleOne of the founding members of the Cascade Mycological Society, Bruce has a demonstrated passion and skill in mushroom identification and photography. But his interests run broadly across the ecological world: from his ecological consulting business Salix Associates, to volunteer work for Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah, the Native Plant Society of Oregon, North American Butterfly Association, McKenzie River Trust, and other local community organizations.

Also presenting is Oregon Wild's Old-growth Campaign Coordinator, Chandra LeGue, who will speak about how healthy forests, streams, wildlife and wildlands are essential for fungi - and vice versa!
