Join Oregon Wild for a special night with Trip Jennings of EP Films. EP promotes “conservation through exploration” and has made films for the Save the Wild Rogue Campaign, Save Our Wild Salmon, PBS, and National Geographic. In the Portland-based team’s travels and adventures – from the Congo to the Amazon and back to Oregon – they have sought to bring a unique viewpoint to conservation causes from salmon migration and wilderness protection to major dams and ivory poaching.
What: Eugene Oregon
Wild Wednesday, presented by Mountain Rose Herbs
When: Wednesday, June 15th, 6-7:30pm
Who: Trip Jennings, EP Films and Rob Klavins, Oregon Wild
Where: Davis’ Restaurant, 94 W. Broadway in downtown Eugene
Trip will focus on the tale of two adventures in science,
conservation and survival in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2008 Jennings led a team of
whitewater kayakers on the first successful descent of the Lower Congo Rapids.
The goal of the project was to collect data for the Museum
of Natural History in New York, helping to explain the unusually high
biodiversity in the lower Congo River before a
mega dam floods it forever. Then, in March and April of this year Jennings traveled deep
into the Congolese jungle to complete a DNA map of African elephants. The map
allows anti-poaching organizations to pinpoint source populations for illegal
shipments of ivory seized around the
world.
Over the course of two expeditions in Congo, Jennings was held up by rebels with assault rifles, sucked into giant whirlpools, and shared a dug out canoe for two days with captured poachers. Each time he has made it home with data, stories, and images he hopes will help inform and inspire conservation success in Oregon and around the world.
Joining Trip will
be Rob Klavins of Oregon Wild to talk about Oregon Wild's outdoor program, which encourages exploration of Oregon's forests, streams, and wild lands.
WIN!: Every person who attends this event will be entered into a free raffle for great prizes from our event sponsor, Mountain Rose Herbs! Must be present to win.
