Join world-renowned and award-winning nature photographer Gary Braasch for an exploration of how global warming is already impacting our world.
Gary Braasch
Earth Under Fire
The widespread effects of global climate change can sometimes seem an abstraction. What do rising sea levels and melting glaciers actually mean—what do they look like? Portland-based photojournalist Gary Braasch has spent the past decade answering these questions and traveling to the ends of the earth to visually document the rapidly occurring effects of global warming. Join Oregon Wild on Wednesday
April 1st, for an evening with world-renowned photographer Gary Braasch as we explore the implications of our warming planet through stunning images from across the globe.
In 2007, Braasch released Earth Under Fire: How Global Warming is Changing the World, a collection of astonishing photographs and essays offering a comprehensive look at the world wide effects of climate change. Al Gore calls Earth Under Fire "essential reading for every citizen." In 2008, the United Nations issued a six stamp commemorative set on climate change, exclusively displaying Braasch’s trademark images.
Gary Braasch’s successful career traces back to his Oregon roots. Braasch’s website claims: "Gary is an active contributor to environmental efforts ranging from forest preservation in his home state of Oregon to international conservation campaigns."
The evening presentation will also include a brief look at the role that Oregon’s mature and old-growth forests play in the effort to slow global climate change. Oregon Wild Old-Growth Campaign Coordinator Jonathan Jelen will discuss the potential carbon storage capacity of Oregon forests as well as efforts underway to permanently protect Oregon’s oldest trees.
