Selections from acclaimed Oregon author, including The Far Corner, Rogue River Journal, and Winter Creek: One Writer's Natural History

Author John Daniel has kept pretty good company in his long and acclaimed writing career. He’s traded writing tips with the likes of Wallace Stegner, Wendell Berry, and more. His books have now won two Oregon Book Awards and one Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award. He writes about the land, those who inhabit it, and our connections to place.

Join John Daniel and Oregon Wild at Roots Brewery on Wednesday, January 27th as the author reads selections from his books, including his most recent collection, The Far Corner. Daniel has been featured in The Oregonian, High Country News, and elsewhere and is regarded as one of the finest writers in the West.

John DanielThe Far Corner coverDaniel is best known for his 2005 book, Rogue River Journal, an account of a four-and-a-half-month experiment in solitude in a remote Rogue River cabin. The book is also a memoir of Daniel's father's life and career in the American labor movement and of his own growing up and coming of age in the 1950s and 1960s.

Following Daniel’s reading, Oregon Wild Old Growth Campaign Coordinator Chandra LeGue will present on the recent exciting news of the introduction of old-growth protection legislation for eastern Oregon forests. Get the latest update on this historic legislation and how conservationists and timber industry representatives found common ground in the woods.
