From Source to Confluence

Exploring Wasson Creek in the Devil's Staircase Wilderness

Maybe you’ve heard stories of hikers lost beneath its towering old growth. Or rumors of a mythical cascading waterfall, carved by water and time. Perhaps you’ve wondered, “What exactly is the Devil’s Staircase?” Find the answers to your questions on Thursday, December 9th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at the Lucky Lab Brew Pub on SE Hawthorne.

Eugene-based photographer and adventurer, Tim Giraudier will take you on a photographic journey into the heart of the proposed Devil's Staircase Wilderness as part of the Oregon Wild Wednesday speakers’ series.

The stunning multimedia presentation chronicles Giraudier’s legendary excursion into the heart of the proposed Devil's Staircase Wilderness – the Oregon Coast Range's most rugged and wild area. You’ll see images few people get to experience in person – from Wasson Lake downstream through the heart of Devil's Staircase, to its namesake waterfall, and to the confluence with the Smith River.

Chandra LeGue of the conservation non-profit Oregon Wild will also detail current efforts to protect the Devil’s Staircase asWild Wednesday Logo Brown Wilderness. Will Congress be able to push through legislation before the end of the year or will this special place wait another two decades for the protections it deserves? LeGue will have the answers.

This special event is part of the ongoing Oregon Wild Wednesday series (although this is a special “Thursday” edition) and is free to the public.
