Endangered Places Map and Trails
Find that perfect spot to capture the winning image.
Oregon's Yellowstone is big. In fact, the Siskiyou Wild Rivers area is the state's largest intact stretch of wildlands left unprotected.
You can see a map of the entire area here.
Because the Siskiyou Wild Rivers proposal is so big, we can't list all the trails here, but we can suggest a couple of easily accessed spots for you to explore and snap that winning photograph.
One are is the Oregon Redwoods. Tucked into the far southwest corner of the state, these massive trees stand for centuries, casting their shadow down to the forest floor. Check out a trail description and directions here.
Another quick access spot comes from our Wilderness Coordinator Erik Fernandez. He writes:
Here's a description for an easy access spot on the Illinois River.
Little Illinois River Falls
From Grants Pass: Head south along Highway 199 several miles past the small town of Selma. Turn right onto Eight Dollar Mountain road which will be signed (this is also known as Forest Service road 4201). Drive approximately 1 mile past the boardwalk trail and you’ll see signs for the trailhead. The trail is a short loop approximately one mile long with terrific views of little Illinois Falls and the Illinois River.
A couple of ideas from a huge 500,000 acre Wilderness proposal. Forest Service maps of the area can be found at the Forest Service website.
