Difficulty: Strenuous
Distance: 6.0 miles
Elevation Gain: 2,200 feet
Leader: Margo Earley
Location: Mount Hood National Forest

We may be on the cusp of summer in the lowlands, but it's still very much winter on the mountain. Here's a great chance to treat yourself to dramatic views of the snow-covered face of Mount Hood, with longtime Wilderness advocate Margo Earley leading the way as we ascend the Tilly Jane Ski Trail through the treeline to Cloud Cap Saddle.

Hike through newly-designated Wilderness in the Mount Hood National Forest, which burned during a lightning-sparked forest fire in the autumn of 2008. See the dramatic re-growth of the landscape in every direction, and hear the fascinating story behind the fire as well.

Also, learn about the six-year effort to win Wilderness protection for this historic and sensitive area of Mount Hood, while enjoying the surrounding beauty and some of the best high country hiking on the state.

Hike participants limited to 15 people.
