Molalla River Wild and Scenic bill moves forward
Legislation making quick progress through Congress.
The Molalla River bill continues to move forward in the legislative process, on its way to adding the Molalla to the nation's list of federally-designated Wild and Scenic rivers.
The bill, sponsored in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congressman Kurt Schrader, passed today in the House Committee on Natural Resources, according to Schrader’s Washington, D.C. staff.
“Today marks a very important step in a process that began with community leaders identifying a need and I’m proud to have worked with them to create this solution,” Schrader said in a press release. “The Molalla River is known for its awe-inspiring beauty, and serves as a water source for many citizens in southern Clackamas County while providing unmatched recreational opportunities. It deserves this federal protection.”
Before the Molalla river gains Wild and Scenic status, Schrader’s bill will have to pass in the House and companion legislation, sponsored by Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, would need to pass in the Senate.
