Oregon Wild Launches Contest To Name A Wandering Lone Wolf

OR-7 in need of a new name to help foster awareness and appreciation.

OR7 has captured the imagination of Oregonians with his 300 mile journey across the Cascades. Now, it's time to give him a name. OR7's last known location was just Southeast of Crater Lake. To help raise awareness, Oregon Wild is asking children and teenagers to help name the wolf to help raise awareness. Rob Klavins with Oregon Wild says this is part of a campaign called "Connect with the Wild."

Klavins: "We're doing it in the hopes that by getting more people informed and engaged in wolf recovery through the naming contest and art contest, OR7 is going to be safer from those who otherwise might be tempted to kill an unknown or anonymous wolf.

In addition to name submissions, children are asked to submit art depictions of OR7 because there are no actual photos of him. Conservationists hope the contest helps dispel the myths and misinformation that exists about wolves. Names and art must be submitted by December 16th.
