Christine Caurant will monitor the forests of Mt. Hood and the Columbia Gorge; advocate for common-sense alternatives to destructive logging

Oregon Natural Resources Council (ONRC) today announced that Christine Caurant has been named their new Northwest Oregon Field Representative. Caurant will be leading the organization’s collaborative forestry efforts in Northwestern Oregon, as well as defending the old-growth forests and roadless wild lands of Mount Hood and the Columbia Gorge. She will be located in ONRC’s Portland office.

“I look forward to combining my passion for conservation and background in science to help protect and restore Oregon’s wild lands, wildlife, and waters,” said Caurant.

Caurant comes to ONRC from Humboldt County, California, where she studied community participation in environmental policy as part of the “Environment and Community ” Master of Arts in Social Science program at Humboldt State University. In addition to her policy and community studies background, she has extensive experience as a conservation biologist and naturalist. Caurant has also been involved in a number of conservation campaigns, including the effort the stop Pacific Lumber Corporation’s effort to recall pro-conservation District Attorney Paul Gallegos.

“Christine joins our organization at a critical time,” observed Jay Ward, ONRC’s Conservation Director. “Her experience and enthusiasm will help guide Oregon down a path through the woods that doesn’t involve logging our remaining old-growth and roadless wild lands.”

Christine Caurant can be reached by phone at (503) 283-6343 ext. 224, or by email to cc@oregonwild.org
