Protecting big trees in Central Oregon & what happened with the logging at Phil's Trail

Recent logging, Deschutes National Forest

Think we’re no longer cutting big trees? Think again. You probably saw some of the recent news about large and mature trees being cut near Phil’s Trail outside of Bend. While this was disappointing, unfortunately it wasn’t surprising. Fortunately there is new science that could help guide new protections for mature and old-growth forests.

We hope you’ll join Oregon Wild, the Worthy Garden Club, and conservation partners for a lively discussion about efforts to protect big trees on the Deschutes National Forest, regionally and nationally.  We’ll discuss the wildlife, recreational, water quality, and carbon values of these forests.  You’ll also hear recent findings on the role large trees play in fire behavior and the issues raised during the recent logging near Phil’s Trail.

Speakers include Dr. Beverly Law (OSU), Dr. Dominick DellaSala (Wild Heritage), Roger Worthington (Worthy Brewing), Oregon Wild, and Central Oregon Landwatch.
