Western Snowy Plover
The Western Snowy Plover is a small bird that lives on the beach. The
bird has evolved so that its eggs and chicks blend in well with the
sand — but it hasn't survived the introduction of European Beach Grass
very well. The clumpy grass was planted to keep sand from moving around
but it also destroyed the unstable sand habitat that plovers need to
make their nests.
