About this Hike

Lookout Mountain's name is fitting, as it offers some of the best views in the Cascades. This hike features a gradual climb along a ridge through an old-growth Pacific silver fir forest to an isolated, rocky pinnacle.. The summit from Lookout Mountain overlooks every Cascade peak from the Three Sisters to Mount Rainier. As you look out over the Badger Creek Wilderness, you'll experience an up-close-and-personal view of Mt. Hood.

Lookout Mountain is the highest point (6,525 feet) within the Badger Creek Wilderness, which encompasses 29,057 acres. The rocky terrain and hardy trees are all part of its subalpine ecosystem.

Getting There

1. Turn east off Oregon 35 onto Forest Road 44.

2. After three miles on Road 44, turn south onto Road 4410 and continue for 4 miles to High Prairie where the one-mile trail to the summit begins.
