A few years ago the Oregon Historical Society published an outstanding history of the Klamath Basin's wetlands and wildlife refuges titled "Refuges and Reclamation."

Oregon Wild has collected many historic photographs of the early history of the Klamath Basin, as well as maps of the region before the construction of the Klamath Irrigation Project. 

The College of the Siskiyous Mount Shasta Project in Northern California also has an extensive collection of historic Klamath Basin photographs.

Some good information on the natural history of the Klamath Basin can be found at the Klamath-Salmon Natural History Library.

The Lava Beds National Monument has an excellent history of the Modoc War available online.  This document details the conflict between white settlers, the US Army, and the Native Americans of the Modoc Tribe in Klamath Basin during the 1860's and 1870's.  This bloody and tragic chapter in the history of the Klamath took place along the Lost River and the shores of historic Tule Lake.
