Difficulty: Moderate

Distance: 3.4 miles round trip

Elevation Gain: 970 feet

Seasons: July to October

Description: Garfield Peak is one of the most popular hikes in Crater Lake National Park due to its proximity to the Lodge and spectacular panoramic views. The trail leads east and follows the rim of the lake. After about a half-mile, the trail is a fairly steep climb to the 8,060 foot summit. From the summit, there are views of the lake, Phantom Ship, Wizard Island and on clear days the views stretch along all of the southern Cascades (Shasta, Theilsen, and more). This trail explores one of the Park's best alpine wildflower displays (time it for just after the snow melts at the lodge). If hiking here before the snow has fully melted be extra careful on the steep slopes as there are drop offs.

Directions: On the east end of the Rim Village walk past Crater Lake Lodge and follow a paved path to a dirt trail.
