About this Hike
Chimney Rock overlooks a bunchgrass landscape that has been etched by the beautiful cliff-rimmed canyon of the Crooked River. This hike climbs out of the canyon and past a dry waterfall to an overlook with great views. Just beyond is Chimney Rock where you can see cliff swallow nests, multi-colored lichens, and a view that (on clear days) extends to the Three Sisters.
History of the Area
Chimney Rock is located within the Deschutes-Ochoco National Forest, which encompasses approximately 2.5 million acres. It served as an iconic and helpful landmark along the Oregon Trail during the 19th century.
